My name is Dr Helen Glossop and I am a clinical psychologist who specialises in working with children and young people with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and their families. I am a British Psychological Society Chartered Clinical Psychologist, registered with the Health and Care Professions Council, withover ten years experience working within NHS and private services.
My passion for working with young people with ASD began before my psychology training when I worked as a therapist implementing individualised programs for young people with autism within their homes. I followed this interest through training, opting to take my final training placement in a national specialist neurodevelopmental service and I have continued to work within neurodevelopmental services since this time.
I have extensive experience in assessment and diagnostic work with young people with ASD and understand the importance of identifying both the strengths and challenges faced by the young people with whom I work. In my therapy with children and young people with ASD I predominantly use evidence based cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) and mindfulness approaches for difficulties such as low mood and anxiety. I enjoy running workshops for families and professionals in understanding ASD and its varied presentation in children. Attending regular training, research events and supervision are important to me in keeping my knowledge of assessment, diagnosis and intervention up to date to offer the most effective input to the families I work with.
