It takes approximately 6.5 hours of interview and observation for us to assess the presence of ADHD.
In order to assess for ADHD, we will need to do the following:
- Complete an interview with parents where we will ask for further information and examples about presence of and history of the symptoms of ADHD, including reviewing their full developmental history. This will be with a clinical psychologist within our diagnostic team and last approximately 3 hours.
- Complete an interview with your child where we will ask for their feedback on the symptoms and impact of ADHD. This will take approximately 1 hour and be with a clinical psychologist.
- QbCheck. This is a clinic based computer based continuous performance test assessment tool for 6 – 60 year old’s. It measures the core symptoms associated with ADHD including hyperactivity, impulsivity and inattention/distractibility. QbCheck measures the test taker’s movements, ability to pay attention and impulse control during a 15-20 minute test.
- Prior to the appointment, you will be asked to complete a number of screening questionnaires. You will be asked to complete the Conners 4 Rating Scale for parents and for school, and if your child is over 11 years of age, a Connors self-report. These will be sent to you and your school electronically and can be completed online.
- A BRIEF questionnaire which looks at your observation of your child’s executive function skills.
- A cognitive assessment (WPPSI/WISC-V for children and young people; WAIS for young adults). A cognitive assessment can be extremely helpful for you and for school to understand a little more about how your child thinks and make sense of the world around them. This test can give you insight into how your child processes verbal and visual information, how your child problem solves, how quickly your child processes information, and how they hold information in their short term memory.
- A comprehensive interview and/or observation with the child’s school, complimented by an extensive questionnaire completed by school staff of your child’s emotional, social and academic functioning.
- We follow NICE guidelines.
- We are a team of professionals – no diagnostic decision is ever made by a sole clinician. Different clinicians mean different perspectives and a better understanding of who your child is, there many strengths and what support they may need in the future.
- We use ‘gold standard’ assessment tools across different contexts, with different informants and with different professionals.
- Our assessments are incredibly comprehensive so regardless of diagnosis, you will have a much greater understanding of your child’s strengths and needs.
- When a diagnosis is made, we will explain how your child meets the diagnostic criteria, not just if they do or not.
- We take time to get to know your child over a number of different assessments.
- All recommendations for home and school following the assessment will be tailored specifically to your child.
- All our assessments are recognised by schools, local authorities and CAMHS.
Our comprehensive assessment is £2150.
