Resources While Waiting For Diagnosis
Do you need help whilst waiting for a diagnostic assessment or therapy?
Below, we will share some resources and ideas to help you through this often worrying and anxious time.
Whilst you are waiting....
Speak to school
Even without a diagnosis, schools can put in place support to help your child whilst at school. This could be additional support or adaptions within lessons or at other times of the day. Many adaptions can be put in place without a formal diagnosis.
If you or your child's school believes that the support needed exceeds what school can provide within their current offering, you can apply for an Education, Health and Care plan (EHCP). This is a formal statement of need outlining support and plan to help your child at school.

Arm yourself with knowledge
There is never a better time to learn more about autism and/or ADHD while you are waiting for a diagnosis.
The more you understand about neurodivergence and it's many strengths, the more able you are to prepare your child for the assessment and what any diagnosis means.
Whilst you are waiting.....
Sensory audit
Conduct a sensory audit of your child's environment at home and in other settings.
Are there certain sensory stimuli that impacts on your child? This could include lights, smells, and sounds. Are there ways of changing these inputs to make them less overwhelming for your child?
