Dr Emma Drane
Clinical Psychologist
All about Emma....
What is your education and work history?
- I qualified as a Clinical Psychologist from the University of Oxford in 2012.
- I’ve worked in the NHS supporting people with Learning Disabilities (many of whom are also autistic) and led on our autism work.
- Deliver teaching at the University of Oxford.
- Run my own private practise, assessing adults for autism and have since added ADHD assessments to what I offer.
- Now I do a mixture of NHS work where I am the Consultant Lead Clinical Psychologist for people with Learning Disabilities in Oxfordshire, run my own practice, work for Every Mind and also sometimes help other organisations with their assessments too!
Have you undertaken any additional training?
- Yes, lots!
- Most importantly, I have trained in autism and ADHD assessments, and I keep my knowledge up to date to make sure I’m doing my best.
What do you do at Every Mind?
- If you meet me, it’s usually because we’re doing a cognitive assessment together (puzzles and games on iPads!)
- Very occasionally, I might do other assessments as well so you might see me for other parts of your discovery journey.
What made you chose to work with neurodivergent children and young people?
- I have neurodivergence in my family, and I feel really passionately about supporting neurodivergent people to get the best out of life.
- I know how hard life can be sometimes if you’re neurodivergent, so it’s really important to me that I can be in your corner to help make things a little bit easier.
What is important to know about how you work with neurodivergent young people?
- People have told me that I’m really nice, and really kind.
- I really care about getting your best when we meet, so I will do what I can to make you feel comfortable (including making sure you get a biscuit!).
- I think I’ve got a good understanding about how to do that, and sometimes we can even make our session fun!
What do you do outside of work?
- I have a young family who keep me very busy!
- When I’m not busy with them, I like to see my friends. I love to cook, I enjoy DIY and interior design, and I like to do yoga to unwind.
What is unique about you?
- When I was 7, my family won a holiday to Florida and it was awarded on the Coronation Street set by Vera Duckworth!

What People Are Saying
Dad of 8 year old girl
We all loved coming to Every Mind, my son importantly. He struggles to go to new places because of anxiety but having the animals, toys and such a calming environment really helped to settle him in. Every person treated him like a human being and took the time to get to know him. This was wonderful to see as he seemed so happy and relaxed when at the clinic.
Mum of 7 year old girl
We are so pleased to have found such an amazing clinic. We have been made to feel comfortable by everyone we have met and more importantly, so has our daughter. She’s been at ease undertaking the assessments because not only are the clinicians and reception staff so friendly, but the environment really caters to her needs and helped her to feel relaxed and engaged.
Dad of 10 year old girl
The diagnostic reports reflect a child we recognise; which means that in the relatively short time each clinician spent with her, they were able to see her strengths and challenges and tailor a report that didn’t just make us feel that she was a number in a system. Thank you to everyone at every mind for helping the beginning of this journey feel less overwhelming and daunting for us as parents. And thank you for seeing our child as the wonderful individual we know her to be.
Mum of 6 year old girl
We had such a fantastic experience with every mind. It was very clear from the outset that you meet the nice guidelines and what you were able to offer which is so important for a parent if they're paying to get a diagnosis.
