Dr Katherine Hodson
Clinical Psychologist
All about Katherine....
What is your education and work history?
- I did an undergraduate Psychology degree at the University of Birmingham, then my Clinical Psychology Doctorate at the University of Oxford.
- I’ve then worked in a few different places, including a CAMHS team, in Oxford social care, in an NHS Crisis team for children and adolescents, and in two private clinics.
- I am a published author of The Compassionate Parenting Workbook that is an interactive and practical guide, to help parents during all of those difficult parenting moments.
Have you undertaken any additional training?
- Yes - lots! I won’t mention everything, but this is a ‘taster’ of my training.
- I was trained in America to run a specialist programme (called MTFC) to help young people in care with emotional and behavioural issues.
- I have undertaken a Diploma on the treatment of Eating Disorders, plus a foundation course and a specialist child and adolescent course on Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT).
- I have also been trained in specialist assessments for individuals with Autism.
What do you do at Every Mind?
- I mostly undertake the cognitive assessments, to help the team and families find out more information about young people’s learning - including their strengths and any areas of need.
What made you chose to work with neurodivergent children and young people?
- I believe that everybody has a right to receive assessment, treatment and support.
- However it is often hard for neurodivergent children, young people, and their families to access this support- thus I was keen to help make this more possible.
What is important to know about how you work with neurodivergent young people?
- I always try to adapt how I work to meet the needs of all children, including neurodivergent young people. For example, if helpful, I will write a list of all the assessment activities we are doing, so we can ‘tick them off’ as we go.
- I aim to make my language as clear as possible - and if the young person doesn’t want to chat too much in between the activities, I am happy to stay quieter.
- If they need a break, or to walk around the room to break up the sitting, then that’s fine with me.
- We are all unique and our needs should be supported.
What do you do outside of work?
- I really enjoy spending time with my family, walking in the sunshine, stroking our cat, and chatting to friends.
What is unique about you?
- I still go to ballet lessons, which I absolutely love!
- I have been doing ballet since I was 5 years old, and have no plans to stop yet!!

What People Are Saying
Dad of 8 year old girl
We all loved coming to Every Mind, my son importantly. He struggles to go to new places because of anxiety but having the animals, toys and such a calming environment really helped to settle him in. Every person treated him like a human being and took the time to get to know him. This was wonderful to see as he seemed so happy and relaxed when at the clinic.
Mum of 7 year old girl
We are so pleased to have found such an amazing clinic. We have been made to feel comfortable by everyone we have met and more importantly, so has our daughter. She’s been at ease undertaking the assessments because not only are the clinicians and reception staff so friendly, but the environment really caters to her needs and helped her to feel relaxed and engaged.
Dad of 10 year old girl
The diagnostic reports reflect a child we recognise; which means that in the relatively short time each clinician spent with her, they were able to see her strengths and challenges and tailor a report that didn’t just make us feel that she was a number in a system. Thank you to everyone at every mind for helping the beginning of this journey feel less overwhelming and daunting for us as parents. And thank you for seeing our child as the wonderful individual we know her to be.
Mum of 6 year old girl
We had such a fantastic experience with every mind. It was very clear from the outset that you meet the nice guidelines and what you were able to offer which is so important for a parent if they're paying to get a diagnosis.
