Ines Martin
Assistant Psychologist
All about Ines....
What is your education and work history?
- I completed my undergraduate degree in Psychology at the University of York.
- Volunteered at different charities in York, including SNAPPY (Special Needs and Play Provision York).
- I was also able to volunteer with Open Minds (York), which allowed me to visit different state schools in the area to provide informative talks on mental health and where to find support.
- I worked as a support worker for adults with autism and other disabilities throughout COVID, providing person-centred care and supporting them with their daily living.
- In 2022, I began my Clinical Psychology Masters at the University of Reading.
- As part of this degree, I undertook a clinical placement at Every Mind, helping with assessments and scoring, alongside writing my dissertation.
- After achieving my Masters degree in 2023 I have stayed on at Every Mind as an Assistant Psychologist.
Have you undertaken any additional training?
- As part of my training as a clinical volunteer and support worker, I have undertaken lots of different courses and training for carers, such as the Health Care Certificate and PRICE Training.
- I have also had the amazing opportunity to complete basic Makaton Training whilst working with SNAPPY (However, I am still learning!).
What do you do at Every Mind?
- My current role at Every Mind is as an Assistant Psychologist.
- As part of this, one of my main roles is to undertake the school observations and interviews for Autism and ADHD assessments.
- I also help with sections of the ADHD assessments face-to-face in the clinic.
- Alongside the assessments, I carry out therapeutic work at the clinic, working on post-diagnostic sessions and other mental health and emotional support.
- I also run the Manga Club on a Wednesday afternoon!
What made you chose to work with neurodivergent children and young people?
-
My family!
-
Several members of my family are neurodiverse and have very diverse and unique strengths.
-
Similarly, after delivering person-centred care to neurodiverse adults and children, I have found that neurodiverse people are some of the best and most extraordinary people to work alongside.
-
I am also really interested in the research and science behind differences in emotional understanding and have previously complete my undergraduate dissertation on understanding alexithymia and autism.
What is important to know about how you work with neurodivergent young people?
- Neurodivergent people make up a significant portion of the population and can sometimes be overlooked in different settings, but I want to support and understand each individual’s needs to help them to uncover and build on their strengths in a judgement-free environment.
- Similarly, after growing up in a neurodiverse household, and working within several different aspects of neurodiverse care, including both home, school, and residential care environments, I understand that there are lots of different aspects involved in the care and support of neurodiverse children and each individual’s experience can be very unique.
What do you do outside of work?
- Outside of work, I love to socialise with my friends and go on different day trips out around the Southeast, especially to different National Trust Houses.
- I also love reading and baking!
What is unique about you?
- I used to work as a baker at a Victorian Tea Gardens!

What People Are Saying
Dad of 8 year old girl
We all loved coming to Every Mind, my son importantly. He struggles to go to new places because of anxiety but having the animals, toys and such a calming environment really helped to settle him in. Every person treated him like a human being and took the time to get to know him. This was wonderful to see as he seemed so happy and relaxed when at the clinic.
Mum of 7 year old girl
We are so pleased to have found such an amazing clinic. We have been made to feel comfortable by everyone we have met and more importantly, so has our daughter. She’s been at ease undertaking the assessments because not only are the clinicians and reception staff so friendly, but the environment really caters to her needs and helped her to feel relaxed and engaged.
Dad of 10 year old girl
The diagnostic reports reflect a child we recognise; which means that in the relatively short time each clinician spent with her, they were able to see her strengths and challenges and tailor a report that didn’t just make us feel that she was a number in a system. Thank you to everyone at every mind for helping the beginning of this journey feel less overwhelming and daunting for us as parents. And thank you for seeing our child as the wonderful individual we know her to be.
Mum of 6 year old girl
We had such a fantastic experience with every mind. It was very clear from the outset that you meet the nice guidelines and what you were able to offer which is so important for a parent if they're paying to get a diagnosis.
